Country Club #12 – Ho-ho-ho-down!

November 16, 2009 No Comments

Almost one year ago deadonmusic launched a new type of club night focussed on promoting the wave of local artists making music that fell under the genres of alternative country, folk and Americana. In the last twelve months we’ve had some memorable gigs in McHugh’s and as part of several Belfast based festivals. There have been many highlights, EP and album launches, Johnny Cash nights and acts from all across the UK, Ireland and beyond. To celebrate a great year for many of these local acts who have gone on to release great records, headline shows across the nation and top the bill at local festivals deadonmusic are taking over The Black Box for one night only bringing you the cream of the Northern Irish alt country crop.

Jackson Cage bring echos of The Band, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan in their performances. They’re a formidable seven piece with vocal harmonies and killer guitar solos. Having recently wowed crowds in Dublin and at the Tall Ships and Open House Festival in Belfast, they may not be on a stage this size for too long.

Ten Gallon Hat & The Big Salute feature one of the tightest lineups of straightforward country rock in Belfast. With band members of the finest pedigree with a host of gigs under their belts they’re a sure fire hit with fans of acts like Creedence Clearwater Revival and Old Crow Medicine Show.

Captain Kennedy hail from the wild west (of The Bann) and have one of the most charismatic, engaging live performances of any band we’ve promoted. Raspy vocals echo Rod Stewart from his days in The faces while the dapper stage attire, fiddle and keys conjure images of the old bluesmen. They’re currently working on a follow-up to 2008’s “Factory Whistle Call”.

Louisiana Joyride were busking and playing open mic nights this time last year and twelve months later they’ve become one of the hottest country acts on the scene. Having just released “The Journey Through” EP they are gigging relentlessly, touring Ireland with Yngve & The Innocent. Feisty vocalist Orla Lynch is cut from the same cloth as Tammy Wynette, Billie Jo Speers or Patsy Cline while Owen McNulty provides subtle vocal accompaniment and guitar.
