Country Club #04
April 17, 2009 No CommentsWe’re going a little more up-tempo this month after last month’s night of intense acoustic tunes from Messrs Holmes and Shiels. Two of Belfast’s more recent additions to the alt country circuit will be taking the stage down in McHugh’s basement in what will definitely be a treat for both the ears and eyes before the deadonmusic DJ’s rock out into the wee small hours with some uplifting country, folk, soul and rock and roll.
Katie and the Carnival will bring a touch of elegant glamour to the evening with shades of the Grand Ole Opry about their performance. You may have seen Katie on stage with Koko and the Boomtown Cats or with the almost legendary Delawares but this show looks set to show off a new side to one of the finest female voices in the city.
Ten Gallon Hat & The Big Salute claim to be born out of an indifference to indie and not only do they buck the trend of all those generic guitar bands but they’ve been proving there’s a much more rock and roll side to the country and folk scene in Northern Ireland. Featuring Kris Telford on vocals and guitar, Gerard Skelly on drums and another ex-Delaware Eamo Lynch on lead guitar, Ten Gallon Hat will be performing a special acoustic set as a three piece lending a brand new slant to the songs from their superb debut EP “New Horizons”.
